Graphite electrode is made of petroleum coke, needle coke as raw material and coal tar as binder through calcining, batching, kneading, pressing, roasting, graphitization, machining and other processes. According to its quality index, it can be divided into ordinary power, high power and ultra-high power. The proportion of ultra-high power graphite electrode has been increasing in recent years, reaching 38% in 2016.The downstream of graphite electrode mainly includes eaf steelmaking, yellow phosphorus industry, abrasive industry and silicon industry, among which eaf steelmaking accounts for more than half of the demand for graphite electrode.
Different from the western countries, China builds the eaf production base mainly for the consideration of smelting special steel demand.
The steel scrap supply in China mainly comes from the steel mills' self-produced steel scrap and social steel scrap, among which steel scrap accounts for the main part. Social steel scrap is mainly produced in the manufacturing industry, among which automobile steel scrap accounts for a large proportion.
